Kokontozai: KASHIYUKA’s Shop of Japanese Arts and Crafts —Kōrin Karuta

Searching all of Japan for handcrafted items that express its heart and soul, our proprietor, KASHIYUKA, presents things that bring a bit of luxury to everyday life. This time we went to Kyoto where the anthology of 100 classical poems known as Hyakunin Isshu is said to have originated during the Kamakura period [1185 – 1333]. There we learned about the Kōrin Karuta set of playing cards, associated with the Kyoto painter Ogata Kōrin.
